The Woodstock Jacket
It’s the summer of 99’ and you’re staying with your grandparents for the week. Rummaging around in the attic you find a dusty old trunk full of clothes and memorabilia from yesteryear. All the way at the bottom is a denim jacket. You pull it out. It smells a little like mothballs- somehow comforting- and patchouli. Your grandad says it was his but your grandmother swears it’s hers. It’s seen alot: parking lot parties, green rooms, and that one time their car broke down driving through Kentucky and they got caught in a flash flood rainstorm walking to the nearest gas station. Memories held in every detail like a totem pole. Decorative tonal stitching on a soft, bleached denim. Haphazardly applied patches. A signature on the inside pocket that you can’t read, and inside the pocket, a faded ticket that reads “Sunday, August 17th, 1969”….
